Indie Spotlight – Georgia Rose

Today I am excited to be welcoming Georgia Rose into the Indie Spotlight. Georgia is a fellow member of Rosie Amber’s book review team (#RBRT) and has been a staunch supporter of my blog since it first started.

Georgia Rose is a writer and the author of the romantic and suspenseful Grayson Trilogy books: A Single StepBefore the Dawn and Thicker than Water. Following completion of the trilogy she was asked for more and so wrote a short story, The Joker, which is based on a favourite character from the series and the eBook is available to download for free at the retailer of your choice.

Her fourth novel, Parallel Lies, encompasses crime along with Georgia’s usual blending of genre and its sequel, Loving Vengeance, has now completed The Ross Duology.

She is now embarking on her third series – A Shade Darker.

Georgia’s background in countryside living, riding, instructing and working with horses has provided the knowledge needed for some of her storylines; the others are a product of her passion for people watching and her overactive imagination.

She has also recently started running workshops and providing one-to-one support for those wishing to learn how to independently publish and you can find her, under her real name, at  www.threeshirespublishing.com.

Following a long stint working in the law Georgia set up her own business providing administration services for other companies which she does to this day managing to entwine that work along with her writing.

Her busy life is set in a tranquil part of rural Cambridgeshire in the UK where she lives with her much neglected husband.

Welcome to the Indie Spotlight, Georgia.

What made you decide to publish your books independently? What was your path to publication?

I don’t have a huge amount of self-confidence, or patience, as it turns out. When I’d written my first ever actual complete novel I wasn’t sure what to do next. My daughter told me writers could publish themselves now (this was back in 2012/2013) so I went online to find out what I had to do. The idea of sneaking a book out into the world without it being noticed was strangely appealing back then, although now I prefer them to make a much large splash! Anyway, I published A Single Step, the first book in my first series, bought a copy and remember my excitement when it landed on my ereader. That was nothing compared to the day my first paperback arrived, or the day I got a review from someone I didn’t know. Things took off from there and I’ve been on a steep learning curve ever since.

What made you decide to write in your specific genre rather than other genres? Have you ever written in other genres?

My first five books (A Single Step, Before the Dawn and Thicker than Water of The Grayson Trilogy, and Parallel Lies and Loving Vengeance of The Ross Duology) all had a romantic element to them and mostly fit into the romantic suspense genre. However all those books contain a large dollop of suspense/thriller action so I hope it will not come as too much of a surprise to my readers to find that this next series is psychological thriller and specifically domestic suspense. I have titled the series A Shade Darker (I’m using #AShadeDarker) which will hopefully let my existing readers know that the storylines are darker and contain less romance… probably. The series is not all written yet so romance is bound to feature somewhere!

Do you only read the genre that you write?

Definitely not! I am eclectic in my book choices and read pretty much everything and anything. Actually, having said that, I don’t like anything too sweet and sugary but otherwise show me a well-written story and I’ll give it a try.

What are you currently reading? Watching on TV? Is there a type of music you listen to for inspiration?

I am currently reading a memoir which was something I chose as a member of Rosie’s Book Review Team and that’s going well. I don’t watch much TV but I like a really good drama like Line of Duty or Dexter but I’m always watching them years after everyone else. For my early books I did have specific pieces of music that even now if I hear it will conjure up exactly what scene I was writing. Now, I don’t listen to music when I write. I need silence or I use Brain.fm to block out distraction.

Do you have any advice for aspiring authors?

Keep going. It’s as simple as that. You need to finish the piece of writing you are working on and then start making it into something you can publish. I am a proud independent author but that does not mean I do this alone. I have test readers; I employ editors, cover designers and proof readers; and I am growing a band of advance copy readers. Each one of those people adds something to the process of me publishing a book and I couldn’t do it without them. So keep it professional.

What are you working on right now and what can we look forward to seeing from you next?

A Killer Strikes is the first book in my new A Shade Darker series. The ebook is available now to pre-order but the book (also in paperback and hardback) will be published on 1 January 2023 as the story takes place in January. The second book in the series is Shape of Revenge and that is also up on pre-order and will be published on 1 February 2023 as the story takes place during February. You can see a pattern forming and I am currently writing the book for March and would like to be publishing that on the 1 March next year too. Fingers crossed for that one.

I should also add that each story is a complete story, there will be no cliff-hangers here.

Thank you so much for taking part in the Indie Spotlight today, Georgia and good luck with A Killer Strikes!

The Ross Duology

A woman with a hidden past. A new love on the horizon. Will the truth set her free or cost her everything?

In Parallel Lies Madeleine Ross has meticulously organized her world to leave no trace of her criminal past. After creating a new identity for herself, her only remaining connection to her previous life is the security work she does for a small-town insurance company. But when she starts falling for her handsome boss, Dan, she’s worried letting him in will expose secrets best kept locked away…

As their attraction grows stronger, Madeleine’s attempts to keep Dan in the dark go horribly wrong when a dangerous ex emerges from her unsavoury past. After her former flame makes her an offer she can’t refuse, she has one choice left: ditch her life as a thief to let Dan in or embrace her shady dealings to destroy her only shot at a happy future…

As the story continues in Loving Vengeance, Madeleine’s world, once so organised, is a mess. Suffering the fallout from the mistakes she made with Tag, she has no idea where she stands with Dan. Are they only friends or is there still a chance for something more?

Enter James – cool, calm and calculated. A stranger, she thinks. But he knows her, and he comes with an opportunity she can’t refuse, involving an enemy she’d tried to forget. At first keen to return to her past, Madeleine soon realises it’s not only the gang that’s changed, and battles her own demons as well as an unpredictable villain.

Can Dan step up when he’s needed? Or will it be James who rides in to the rescue? Because when things go badly for Madeleine, and all hope seems lost, there is only one who can save the day. And only one who can bring more to the task than merely himself.

If you like strong heroines, character-driven action and powerful emotions, then you’ll love the Ross Duology.
